๐ฆ King Calamari Boss Fight Tips: Dodge the Slam, Hit the Eye & Sink the Kraken King
One boat. One giant squid king. Nothing else. King Calamari Boss Fight is the purest boss battle on Jollycade โ no levels, no filler, just you in a little sailboat with a bubble-pellet gun and a very large, very grumpy kraken who learns a new attack in every phase and every tide. This free kraken boss fight game is a duel of patience: hold to fire, keep moving, and whatever you do, don't stand under the red shadow. I learned that last one the expensive way. The Tentacle Slam hits for 18 hull damage, and your hull is only 100. Do the maths. I did, afterwards, while staring at the "boss fight over" screen.
Here's the deal. You sail by dragging or with the arrow keys, and holding fires bubble pellets. Land 20 hits without getting splashed and your crew patches +4 hull โ free healing, if you can stay clean. Shoot the glowing tentacle tips for double damage. When his great eye opens, hit it for triple. And when a red shadow appears on the water, a slam is coming: move. Now. That's the whole fight, except the King keeps inventing new ways to ruin your day, so let's talk about them in order.

Phase 1: learn the two attacks, and the red shadow rule
The King opens with two moves. The Tentacle Slam is the big one โ a tentacle winds up, a red shadow blooms on the water beneath your boat, and then it comes down. The shadow is your friend: it's the game telling you exactly where not to be. The moment you see red, sail sideways. Don't sail forward, don't sail back, sail sideways, because the slam is a vertical strip and the water to either side is safe. The second attack, the Ink Barrage, is a spray of ink shots for 8 damage each โ dodgeable, annoying, and mostly a test of whether you're still moving.
Your job in phase 1 isn't to win. It's to build the habit: fire constantly, move constantly, and never, ever sit still under a shadow. Oh, and aim at the glowing tentacle tips when they show โ double damage adds up fast, and a phase 1 played well ends with your hull barely scratched.
The eye is the jackpot โ but don't get greedy
Every so often the King's great eye opens, and for a few seconds it's the biggest target in the ocean, worth triple damage. This is where runs are made. When the eye is open, everything else stops mattering: line your boat up, hold fire, and pour pellets into it. A good eye window can take a whole chunk out of a phase.
The catch โ and there's always a catch with this squid โ is that the eye doesn't stay open, and the King loves to slam right after it closes. So the discipline is: fire hard while it's open, but the instant it shuts, go back to watching the water for red. I lost a full-hull run once because I kept firing at a closed eye for three extra seconds while a slam shadow grew under me. Triple damage is only worth it while the eye is actually there.
New phases, new problems โ the King's expanding playbook
Every phase and every tide, the King learns something new, and the fight gets nastier in a very specific order. Phase 2 brings the Bubble Ring, a wall of bubbles you have to slip through or around. Phase 3 summons mini-squids that nip at your hull while the King winds up โ clear them fast, or they turn a clean fight into a messy one. Phase 4's Tentacle Sweep drags across the water and punishes anyone hugging one side. Phase 5 rains ink from above. Phase 6 opens a whirlpool that pulls your boat toward danger, and phase 7, the Royal Frenzy, is everything at once.
The trick is that none of these attacks is unfair on its own โ each one has a telegraph, a tell, a second of warning. The slam has its red shadow. The ring has its gap. The whirlpool has its pull direction. Watch the tell, not the tentacles, and the fight stays readable even when it gets frantic. The moment you start watching the squid's face instead of the water, you're about to get hit.
Chests, streaks and the +4 hull trick
Two quiet systems do a lot of heavy lifting. First, the floating treasure chest: shoot it and a mystery power drops โ rapid fire, a shield, double damage, a heal, or a star. Always shoot the chest when it appears. Second, the 20-hit streak: land 20 hits without taking a splash and the crew patches +4 hull. It's not much, but over a long fight those patches add up to a whole extra life. Play clean โ dodge one ink shot instead of tanking it โ and the streak keeps paying you.
Your kraken-sinking checklist
- Red shadow = move sideways, immediately โ the slam is 18 hull, and your hull is only 100.
- Fire constantly, move constantly โ a still boat is a hit boat.
- Aim for glowing tentacle tips โ double damage beats body shots every time.
- When the eye opens, everything else stops โ triple damage, but get out the instant it closes.
- Learn the new attack each phase โ Bubble Ring in 2, mini-squids in 3, sweep in 4, ink rain in 5, whirlpool in 6, frenzy in 7.
- Shoot every floating chest โ rapid, shield, double, heal or star, all of them help.
- Protect your 20-hit streak โ dodge one ink shot instead of tanking it, and the crew keeps patching +4 hull.
King Calamari is a boss fight the old-fashioned way: one enemy, a handful of attacks, and nowhere to hide except behind your own reflexes. Learn the tells, respect the red shadow, and save your biggest damage for the open eye โ and sooner or later that giant squid is going back under the waves.
